A permanent record of how Lui and Shoots evolves—new photographs, visual experiments, performance improvements and the decisions behind them.

Version 5.2

A clearer horizon. A new address.

The desktop homepage gains an AI-assisted sunset restoration exported at 3840 × 2160, while Lui and Shoots begins connecting its own domain.

  • Created a landscape homepage version from the larger archive copy using AI-assisted restoration, then resampled it to a 3840 × 2160 WebP. Restored fine detail is estimated rather than recovered camera detail.
  • Added a lighter 1920-pixel desktop source and retained the larger original portrait photograph for mobile screens.
  • Removed permanent image overscaling to avoid unnecessary softness after the opening animation.
  • Added luiandshoots.co.uk and www.luiandshoots.co.uk to the site; DNS and HTTPS verification are pending the domain records being configured.

Version 5.1

Sunset, and an open door.

Ryan’s sunset photograph becomes the homepage image as the portfolio opens for everyone to view.

  • Replaced the homepage image with the supplied sunset photograph, framing the sun and tree silhouettes responsively.
  • Refined the shading for readable titles and navigation while retaining the photograph’s warm sky.
  • Opened the existing website to public visitors at the same address.

Version 5.0

A studio for making. A journal for thinking.

A private photographic workspace joins the portfolio, alongside Ryan’s complete essay on the art, science and mathematics of photography.

  • Added saved photo projects, multi-image imports, a library, filmstrip, tonal histogram, before/after comparison and full-resolution JPEG, PNG and WebP exports.
  • Introduced brush, linear, radial, colour-range and luminance masks with independent local adjustments, add/subtract strokes, feathering, inversion and mask management.
  • Added exposure and colour controls, tone curves, an eight-channel colour mixer, presets, sharpening, vignette, grain, crop, rotation and flips.
  • Preserved originals separately from editable settings, with automatic saving, revision protection and a 30-step session history.
  • Created a Journal with the complete 2024 essay, original illustrations and credit, typeset equations, chapter links, reading controls and print styling.
  • Added Studio and Journal to the homepage directory and shared navigation. Documented browser-format limits and the features that remain outside this first studio release.

Version 4.11

Cream contact page

The Contact page now has a softer, warmer cream background.

  • Applied warm cream across the Contact page, including its navigation and footer.
  • Deepened the small enquiry note for clear contrast against the new background.
#v4-11-cream-contact-page ↗

Version 4.10

Ropes behind the photographs

The hanging cords now pass behind each photo frame for a cleaner noticeboard finish.

  • Placed the photographs above their rope mounts so the cord ends are hidden behind the image edges.
#v4-10-ropes-behind-photos ↗

Version 4.9

Brown cord

The hanging strings now have the warmth and texture of fine brown cord.

  • Replaced the plain grey lines with brown cord, darker edges and subtle twisted-strand and fibre highlights.
  • Kept a consistent cord thickness across screen sizes using static vector strokes.
#v4-9-brown-cord ↗

Version 4.8

Pinned photographs

The archive takes on a noticeboard feel, with each photograph hung from a fixed silver pin and fine strings.

  • Centered each date beneath its own photograph, with the image number kept separately at the left.
  • Added a stationary pin and two fine strings connecting it to the top of each photo frame.
  • Kept the mounts static during image hover, with responsive spacing and the existing full-screen viewer.

Version 4.7

Graphite depth

Subtle graphite gradients and soft cool highlights add depth to the Space Gray archive.

  • Layered darker edges and restrained pools of light into the archive background.
  • Added a soft gradient to the year filters and adjusted their borders for contrast.
  • Kept all gradients static and confined to the interface, preserving the photographs' colours.
#v4-7-graphite-depth ↗

Version 4.6

Space Gray archive

The archive moves to a deeper graphite grey inspired by the iPhone Space Gray finish, with a subtle cool tint and muted silver details.

  • Darkened and cooled the archive background, with coordinated silver text, captions, navigation and controls.
  • Preserved the straight banner, curved gallery frames and original photograph colours.
#v4-6-space-gray-archive ↗

Version 4.5

Warm grey archive

A deeper warm grey background gives the archive a darker setting, with soft ivory text and pale taupe captions.

  • Changed the archive background to warm grey and adjusted navigation, captions, borders and filters for readable contrast.
  • Preserved the straight banner edges, gently curved gallery frames and original photograph colours.
#v4-5-warm-grey-archive ↗

Version 4.4

Straight banner edges

The archive banner fills its frame cleanly again, with straight edges meeting the page.

  • Removed the banner's curved outline and rounded corners to eliminate the exposed background band.
  • Kept the gently curved frames on gallery photographs.
#v4-4-straight-banner-edges ↗

Version 4.3

Gently curved frames

A slight bow along all four edges gives the archive photographs a softer outline.

  • Applied the same gently curved outline to the archive banner and every gallery photograph.
  • Kept the contour static and responsive, with the photographs' proportions and resolution preserved.
#v4-3-gently-curved-frames ↗

Version 4.2

Softer photo corners

A subtle curve softens the archive banner and gallery photographs.

  • Applied a consistent 8px radius to all four corners of the archive banner and photo cards.
  • Replaced the gallery's occasional oversized corner curves with the same restrained finish.
#v4-2-softer-photo-corners ↗

Version 4.1

A warmer archive

The archive takes on a soft ivory palette with espresso text and warm taupe details.

  • Warmed the archive background, navigation, captions, borders and year-filter controls.
  • Carried the ivory tone into the photographic heading and image-view controls.
  • Preserved the original image files, responsive sizes and existing motion without adding rendering effects.
#v4-1-warmer-archive ↗

Version 4.0

A place for every chapter

The portfolio now opens as one deliberate, full-screen image while every part of the work has its own permanent address.

  • Reframed the homepage as a single full-screen landing view with no vertical scrolling.
  • Centered the homepage message and four destination links vertically while preserving their editorial alignment.
  • Opened the four homepage links into spacious, borderless monoline capitals with quieter motion.
  • Kept the top navigation and circular lens removed, with the original wordmark restored as a standalone signature over the seamless tonal image overlay.
  • Moved Archive, About, Contact and Logbook to permanent routes with a consistent Home link.
  • Centered the Archive heading and its introductory note across desktop and mobile layouts.
  • Set the nighttime Colosseum photograph behind the Archive heading with a restrained tonal wash for clarity.
  • Preserved the complete 114-photograph archive, responsive image quality, filters and full-screen viewer.
  • Refined navigation, responsive spacing and page transitions around the existing photographic visual language.
#v4-permanent-pages ↗

Version 3.2

A quieter transition

The oversized category banner was removed so the opening photograph now gives way directly to the archive.

  • Removed the scrolling Street, Landscape, Architecture, Light and Stillness banner.
  • Eliminated its remaining scroll calculation and rendering layer.
  • Kept the cinematic hero, section navigation and full photographic archive unchanged.
#v3-2-quieter-transition ↗

Version 3.1

Palette and performance

A quieter cool-silver palette replaced the yellow accents, while the motion system was rebuilt to feel smoother without reducing photographic resolution.

  • Replaced the yellow interface accents with restrained cool silver and soft grey.
  • Consolidated scroll effects into one animation-frame cycle scoped to the moving elements.
  • Removed expensive full-screen blur, colour-filter and continuous shape animations.
  • Deferred off-screen gallery rendering across the 114-image archive.
  • Preserved every 2160px viewing file and responsive high-quality thumbnail.
#v3-1-palette-performance ↗

Version 3.0

Liquid motion system

The portfolio became a more cinematic, scroll-responsive space while keeping the photographs—and loading performance—at the centre of the experience.

  • Added a sticky, depth-responsive opening image and liquid lens treatment.
  • Introduced kinetic typography, chapter tracking and animated image reveals.
  • Added permanent anchors for Archive, About and Contact; the URL now follows the active chapter.
  • Created this separate logbook for every future portfolio revision.
  • Added keyboard navigation to the full-screen image viewer.
#v3-liquid-motion ↗

Version 2.0

The full archive

The original portfolio expanded into a complete chronological record of Ryan's Instagram photography.

  • Added 114 photographs from 93 posts, including every carousel image.
  • Exported sharp 2160px viewing files with lighter responsive thumbnails.
  • Added year filters for work made between 2023 and 2026.
  • Added a full-screen viewer with direct links to the original posts.
